A versatile kit with which you can cut threads on your lathe with either a tap or a die.
Button die holders and tap chucks are held in the front of the knurled sleeve of the tool.
The sleeve is free to slide on a fixed arbor which is attached to the tailstock with a Morse Taper shank.
For smaller taps and dies - the hand held knurled sleeve with the tap or die fitted is pushed into the work-piece. As the thread starts, the spindle rotation draws the tap or die towards the headstock cutting the thread.
When the thread bottoms or comes to the designated length of thread, the machinist releases his grip and the knurled sleeve along with the tap or die rotates with the spindle until the lathe is stopped.
Reversing the spindle backs the tap or die out towards the tailstock as the knurled sleeve is again gripped by the machinist's hand.
For larger taps and dies that cannot be hand held because of the torque, the stop handle is inserted in the knurled sleeve.
The stop handle by resting against the lathe prevents the sleeve from rotating and the tap or die cut the thread in the same manner as i would be done when hand holding.
